John Wells, Master of Fine Art, Muralist, Teacher
BEACH SCENE MURAL SITUATED AT AN APARTMENT TOWER IN
BONDI SYDNEY AUSTRALIA
ARTIST JOHN WELLS
Armed with a Masters degree in
Fine Art from Reading University UK plus several art diplomas, John immersed himself
for over seventeen years in the theatre, as Scene Painter and Property Master,
at the Nottingham Playhouse. There he honed his artistic skills emerging with
an ability to produce very large murals, full of life.
Over
the years he has been commissioned to complete projects ranging from canvases
to large scale murals. One of the most spectacular of these commissions was the
centre piece in a famous Hotel, Wellington Tavern at Waterloo, London. As the word spread, John was asked to do more commissions
some in public buildings others were carried out for private clients in their
own homes, this included idealised landscapes. The idealised landscapes brought
beauty and unique art into his client's homes.
Back
in 1997 the sunny shores of Sydney beckoned, so John packed up his pallet, said
goodbye to mother England and headed to the land down under. Since then we here
in Australia, have been blessed with John's beautiful murals that decorate many
indoor swimming pools, giving them a wonderful ambience. Other murals, of all
shapes, sizes and subject matter, decorate foyers and exteriors of some of Sydney's
prestigious buildings. It wasn't long before John's art was gracing the walls
of restaurants, hotels, private homes, apartment buildings, public buildings.
His swimming pool murals in particular proved to be
very popular.
It wasn't surprising when one of Sydney's
largest fun parks, Fox Studios commissioned John to oversee and undertake the
entire artwork that was included on the Fox Studio's Australia's entrance gate to the Back Lot Tours. A massive undertaking. This commission
was quickly followed by The Heritage Mural at the Glass Factory site for Meriton Apartments.
